Pieces of Play Saturday: Why I Play

Why do I play? It's so simple. To play is to learn. To play is to grow. It's fun, yes, and that what often comes to mind but for this season of life, play is essential. Play is critical for this 9 and 7 year old. Play is the way I have fun, but my definition of play is so very different to Kirra's, Kaiya's and Michael's preference for play.

Play is a special time to share as a family. Even though the girls are reluctant to celelbrate or participate in Basketball at the same level we do, its clear, that when we train with them, or step on the court with them, or simply practice passing the ball with them the hugs go deeper, and last for longer. It's a bond that occurrs in that moment of spending time, and playing. Playing is also the best way of sharing knowledge, principles, and experiences that will be crucial well beyond their childhood years. Travel is another form of play for us, and the reasons for doing that are even bigger and more impactful.

I struggle with play, and I hope to be better at it. It's a lifelong journey for me to tap into. Thanks for the focus. Thanks for the opportunity, thanks girls for the play!

The last two photos is what it looks like (and the house untidiness) when my girls are in front of the screens all day and there is not enough play. More play is less mess!
