Well this is a special post about a little knitted jumper that Kaiya's Pa Abbott made for her cousin Cameron. Pa aka Michael's Dad Ray, started knitting the jumper before Cameron was born. It was sent here from Ballarat to get some pictures of Kaiya in the jumper too. 

 

Michael, his Dad, and his sister Lyn have all followed Geelong for most of their lives.  Ray was the first and started going for the Cats when he was a boy around the time the Geelong Cats won one of their Grandfinals.  Michael can deliver a pretty good speech as to why the Cats are the best team, and there are many valid reasons as to why he loves them so much.  I have a soft spot for them too even though the Brisbane Lions are my team.  We do however want Kaiya to grow up and make her own choices in life and decide which team steals the AFL piece of her heart (assuming there is one of course). So baby girl enjoy sharing the sense of pride that your family have for the Cats and enjoy this true little story that is one of your Dad's childhood memories.

There has been a bit of a tradition of Ray knitting jumpers for the members of his family and there is a story of when Michael was a little boy at the footy with his family watching the Geelong Cats play. Michael was wearing a Geelong jumper that had been knitted for him. A spectator, who shall be known as the AFL fool, at the match who did not share Michael's love of the Cats had an unkind, sexist and sarcastic jibe to make at Michaels expense.  There was a conversation that ensued, that legend has it, went a little something like this:

AFL Fool: "Who knitted your jumper? Your Mum?"

Michael: "No! My Dad did!"

 

Regardless of which team you choose, there will always be someone who thinks incorrectly that they are entitled to an opinion about it. So just remember, always hold your head up and be proud of who you are! You can always count on us for back up!
