December Story 14: December 2020 Year in review
December is funny, before we celebrate the end of the year, we are already getting ready for the next, particularly for the girls, particularly getting organised for a new school year. When I review the year I want to remember the following:
We celebrated the start and completion of year 1 at school
for Kaiya, there were new friends to make in class all while going into
lockdown for COVID. We also have the most giant bundle of artwork from the
whole year and it is beautiful! Absolutely beautiful.
There was a new job for Muma in a big organisation and big
dreams for change under corporate responsibility, was a significant part of the
role.
We celebrated Kirra’s graduation from Kindergarten. Even with
COVID-19 we were able to meet some of the families of her friends. She is so beautiful
and kind and the friendships they form in the first five years are precious.
We said goodbyes to the Daycare that the girls have attended
for 6 years. For 6 years this place was the girls second home, where they took
first steps, found new words, and made special friendships. Friendships with peers and especially teachers
have been critical in the formation of the girl’s village. The girls have had ‘ouchies’
and have been cuddled and consoled by their carers. They have had science, maths,
geography, music, art, and language lessons. Most importantly they have
developed their emotional intelligence as they navigated how to socialise, and
navigate a complex world. They have learnt how to be self-determined, and independent,
influencers, and leaders. They have witnessed the impact of compassion and
kindness as well. This was the year of our last play at this second home.
Daddy continued to try and make the world a more equitable
place, one transport strategy at a time.
The backyard became a place the girls could play instead of
being a construction site, maybe 2021 we will finish the front yard.
We also managed to get a road trip and a little family
holiday in while COVID restrictions eased. So it was a welcomed bit of
excitement for this little family of adventurers.
It was a joy to work from home and slow down a little this
year.
The photos are from this year both May and December. The
girls are doing their Wonder Woman Superhero stance just in-case you are
wondering.
Thank-you 2020. It has had moments of great tragedy but also
so much revolution of thought, and we saw change we never thought was possible.
