December Story 17: 22/12/2020 Bundy to Rocky
The first stop was coffee for the next day and that meant a drive from Bundaberg to the neighbouring suburb of Bargara. It is a beautiful spot with hotels and a playground for the kids on the beach. The ocean is right there with the most beautiful black rocks leading out to sea. It was super cool to find a vegan café there that charged extra for ow milk. A smart way to offset harmful emissions to the environment. We are everywhere. Since becoming Vegan Michael has spent time finding out the cool places to go. He has always been a foodie and now he is making new adventures with me. It is a love language thing and I feel very loved.
Next stop was the incredible Mon Repos Turtle Education
Centre. It was brilliant. It is a special place, that was the dream of a
teacher, and the reality of a team and special community who were passionate about
caring for the turtles. The message is of preservation, and these beautiful
turtles are nothing short of magnificent. The people investing their lives to
protect them are noting short of amazing. Volunteers shared knowledge with us with
patience and consideration. They will have told those stories a thousand times
before and despite this they created magic for us when hearing the stories for
the first time. We walked down to the beach and saw the incredible tracks made
by the turtles. The night before they had 13 turtles visit the beach, 11 to lay
their eggs and the other two just came up to have a look. They take people down
at night time to watch this journey, and see firsthand the turtles coming up to
the beach and bury their eggs in the sand so little ones can hatch and travel
down the beach, back into the sea. They have been booked many months ahead of
time and are super hard tickets to get. They have cut the numbers down of
people who can have this experience due to COVID-19. It would be too late at
night to keep the girls up but something we would love to do one day when they
are older. Thanks for the magic Bundy! It was beautiful!
One last stop at another café and we were off. The car was literally
pack to the rafters. It was a bit stressful but we got there in the end. Finally
arriving in Rockhampton, we called the family and invited them over for a swim and
some dinner. We made it, and it was fun!
