December 4: Friday 04/12/2020 Christmas Lego

Lego in some way, shape or form is a part of our Christmas every year since Kaiya. To be fair, Michael had started collecting Lego again as an adult long before Kaiya was born. Lego, particularly at Christmas is something Michael’s and my childhoods, and it is something that seems to be continuing on for Kaiya Kelly and Kirra Isla. It has been a different story over the years, from joining a free Lego tree decoration activity at the shopping centre, to this year, buying a special Lego set to construct at home (in 2020 it was Gingerbread House 10267 Creator Expert). We have a little collection of Lego that builds every year for Christmas and a little village gets put together. We also have decorations that are made of Lego that hang from the tree. Both girls enjoy it as play, but in the last few months it has featured on Kirra top 2 list of things to do on her Fridays off with her Dad (the other activity if shopkeeper with their home corner toys). Kirra admits that she chooses Lego because Daddy likes it (just like watching the Basketball). Kirra’s style with Lego at the moment is putting the Lego together, creatively and in her own way, then playing with the figurines (mostly Friends and Disney Princesses) and acting out their adventures. Kaiya loves to set up their houses and adventure lands perfectly so they have everything thing they need to get dresses, care for their animals, share food, or go on adventures.  They are both really good at following the booklet instructions and building but also love to play, play, play!

Michael and Kirra worked for two hours building and playing to put the Gingerbread house together while I was working from home upstairs. Michael has been taking spare moments to set up another part of the village, or continue to build his town. Each year, the Christmas Lego gets packed up and put away at the same time as the Christmas decorations and they feel like old friends when they come out of storage again. We (parents) are getting more and more time to spend on our hobbies as the girls get older, and we are very grateful.   I’m not quite there yet with getting time to build Lego but am very happy to let the girls build it for me, especially when it is this years Wonder Woman.
