December 2021 Story 8: Redlands Lights and Community Choir
A drive out to the Redlands is one of our adventures during Christmas. They have wonderful Christmas lights and there are a couple of streets of neighbours that do a great job decorating as a team. Occasionally you see one house that does not decorate and it’s funny, especially if they have a big bright green sign saying HUMBUG! The lights are always wonderful and there is a very real and genuine generosity in making your house light up for Christmas for the entertainment of the community.
We had a few trips out to the Redlands, a few
trips to catch the lights, and one to catch the choir singing. The girls sat in
the Redlands Theatre for about 3 hours listening to the local choir and
singers. It was a marathon. So many songs that the girls would not have known,
but a lot from my childhood and exposure to European traditions growing up. It
was really interesting to see the opportunities that exist for young people
here if they have a passion for music. Many of the artists were familiar faces
and I’m sure that they have been entertainers at the shopping centers doing the
Christmas Parades for Santa’s arrival and the roaming Carolers singing
Christmas songs.
