December 2021 Story 7: Prep Playdate

This whole year I have been planning to organize a play in the park for the girls classes to say thanks for the year and just let the kids play. It is a dream come true for the girls to play in the park with their friends after school one day because I usually rush them home for a shower, and dinner and bed. I’m so grateful that one of the parents organized it and made it happen.

There was so much food and the parents and kids were willing, the beautiful December weather meant a massive storm forecast for the afternoon and it didn’t disappoint. The rain poured down and the wind turned it into a spray so even the picnic area was completely wet and got flooded. The kids thought it was an incredible opportunity to use the Skate Park as a giant slide and they were elated. One of Kirra’s classmates yelled, with her arms in the air, at the top of her voice, “this is the best day of my life”. It’s quite possible that in all the excitement, parents gave in to conservative concerns for safety and the kids got a moment of freedom. Kirra was super cold, it was not one of those warm summer storms. Kaiya was happy to be offered lollypops. The playdate was a pretty short one but epic. Christmas in Australia can be epic, according to the kids anyway.

It’s a good thing we made Melted Snow People Cookies, very much in line with the theme.
