December Story 20: 25/12/2020 Christmas I want to remember

Christmas Day is a busy one. There is often a lot that happens on the day, a lots of catching up because we don’t see each other much throughout the year, and also the traditional activities that happen. I must admit the last few years have been so busy that I miss the opening of presents and never seem to get as many photos as I think I might. Australian summer Christmases, if you are lucky, is a day to be in and out of the pool. There is also the off and on play with presents. We were lucky again to overcast weather which meant our skin got a break from the sun, and the heat. Things that were different about the day were that we tried to reduce our Christmas paper waste this year by using fabrics that we got from Op Shopping. It made a difference, and a positive impact. We will get better at this over the years and it will get prettier as we build the collection of ribbons and decorations. Our Christmas Tree was the one that grows in a pot in Nanma and Poppy’s backyard. It was lightly decorated with baubles and tinsel. It was my first Vegan Christmas and we had burgers. Michael cooked amazing dishes. The girls ate fruit, I still call them our fruit and blossom bats. The girls played in the Tent that was set up for them in the back yard, and they got a little screen time. One screen to be shared by the three of them so eventually they decided it was easier just to steam music.  A funny memory I want to remember is that Aunty Sarah brought so many books. There is a great Oprah Winfrey meme where she says, ‘You get a book, and you get a book, and you get a book!”. It was great, the books were about meditation, focus, veganism, Aboriginal culture for kids, and rainbows, art, and poetry. We got matching meditation cushions filled with buckwheat, and pebbles selected by doggo presented in cotton cloths. Kaiya and Kirra were spoilt of course and it was a reminder how one of Aunty Sarah’s favourite love languages is gift giving to others. It’s a miracle they all fit in the car. It was a good day!
