December Story 15: 20/12/2020 Road Trip Eve

So the biggest adventure we had this year was a road trip. Kaiya had been to 5 countries by the age of 5 but our pattern of showing the girls the world one country at a time was derailed by COVID this year. We also missed out on our Easter trip to Rockhampton, and our school holidays with Naliandrah.

If anything, it built the anticipation and excitement for the adventures we managed to have in December. We decided quickly that with the restrictions being lifted due to encouraging COVID statistics would mean that we could plan a road trip. It was the first road trip ever (if you don’t count the many drives to the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast). We have been reluctant to have the girls in the car or a plane for too long. Too many moments of crying babies when they were young. We also decided that the excitement level would be off the charts for the girls and that they might pack a suitcase every day and not sleep for weeks due to excitement. So we held off telling them for a while.

Let’s just say, we know our girls. Within 10 minutes of telling them, once the shock had passed, a little Trunki (kids suitcase) was packed with all the essentials and rolled throughout the house. There was also a ‘sit in’ in the car for a day where a protest was staged to influence Mumma and Daddy to drive them sooner rather than later to Rockhampton. They set up camp in the car complete with snacks, entertainment, travel blankets, their Trunkies, shoes and hats. They lasted for a couple of hours, having a play and producing some artwork. They made phone calls to Nali to got through their plans, and had to sit on suitcases to fit everything in. So cute.

On Road Trip Eve they also got a couple of lessons in packing and repacking their bag, counting out the clothes needed and sticking to limits. Let’s just say that a few too many plushies got snuck in at the last minute.
