December Story 8: December 2020 Gift Giving for each other

We continued our tradition of taking the girls out gift shopping for each other to teach them about generosity and thinking of others. The girls need to find a present for each other, hide the gift when they get home and keep the secret from the other sister leading up to Christmas. The girls make this so much fun at 4 and 6 years old. This year they went shopping with their Daddy on separate days and they were both incredibly good at keeping the secrets, but they both had to tell Mumma what they brought as soon as they got home. It was so very exciting for them. They live the principle of gift giving something, that you would love to receive yourself. Both girls got to go on an additional shopping trip to get presents for their cousin Naliandrah as well. Normally cousins get something sent to them in the mail but this year they could select it in the shop and travel with it to deliver it under the tree. Thinking of others is always fun, and being generous with our hearts and minds is an important part of everyday life but can be amplified in this season. As our traditions change hopefully, we find more ways to give as the girls get older.

So what did they buy? Well Kirra brought an animated baby dragon for Kaiya that talks, and opens its wings and comes with accessories to take care of it. Kaiya brought Kirra a dancing Lama, that seriously busts a move and does spins on the table shaking its head and wiggling it’s behind and a pink flamingo that breaks out in disco music and dances while sitting. They were very hard to keep a secret as they would go off at random times while they were hidden in the back of the car under a blanket. It was a total circus in the car boot!

It is also worth noting that there were special presents from special people again this year outside the immediate families. We were absolutely spoilt. Thank you, Aunty Sharon, Uncle Steve, Bronson, and Cassidee. Thank-you too to Nanma and Poppy’s beautiful neighbour Lara Star.

Here are also some photos of Kaiya and Kirra at the shopping centre looking at the Christmas story animated displays in the shopping centre. It’s lovely to think that we are still getting to enjoy the creativity and artistry of others during this time while there are restrictions on art galleries and museums. The girls also liked wearing their Santa hats this year, so cool!
